This school building, a little south of Moonta in South Australia, was opened in 1878 and closed in 1956. After doing some research, I have found a local uni library that has some copies of school rolls and so on, which I hope to obtain to add more to this story.
Hi,
I found your photo of Thrington School when I was searching for information on my great grandfather who taught at Greens Plains West school back in the 1890s. I would really appreciate knowing a bit more about the school and the area. You mention on the web page that you were hoping to get more information from a local uni library. Are you able to tell me which one and what sort of information they might have?
Best wishes,
Dianne Schwerdt
Hi Dianne,
This is the link to a publication at UniSA: http://www.unisanet.unisa.edu.au/research/condon/sass/sass.asp?SASSRecord=J0757 – I have not yet tracked down a copy for myself but I’d be interested to hear how you go.
This publication has moved on the website to http://www.library.unisa.edu.au/condon/teachers/
The publication is only available on this website. It is compiled from original teacher history records at State Records of South Australia. It does not include information about students, only teachers.
